Not one to be easily satisfied, pianist Andrea Anderson strives tirelessly to uncover the meaning of the music she performs. She is a musician's musician. She has a strong belief in the spirituality of music, and of its marvelous effect on those who experience its beauty and expressiveness.

 

Artist Andrea Anderson has performed in China, Sweden, Finland, and Lithuania. She has performed in 40 of the 50 United States at such as prestigious venues as The University of the South, Utah State University, Arizona State University, University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and Marshall Fine Arts Series, as well as numerous universities, performing arts series, and rural venues. She has also done Community Concerts. Andrea Anderson was born in Buchanan, Michigan. She studied at the University of Wichita in Kansas, and holds both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. She has done post graduate work at the University of Southern California, and in 2001 completed a doctorate at Claremont Graduate University. Her primary area of research was the piano music of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel as it relates to the Impressionist movement. Her principal teachers have been Robert Goldsand, Jeaneane Dowis, Gwendolyn Koldofsky, Daniel Pollack, and Bernardo Ségall. Ms. Anderson was granted the Harold Bauer Award by Manhattan School of Music and a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation for further study and performance at the Aspen Music Festival. Sponsors have been awarded grants by the National Endowment for the Arts to present Ms. Anderson performing American music.

 

She has premiered several contemporary works by Michael Mitacek, José Bornn, and Ludmila Ulehla. She has also appeared live on radio and television. She has given recitals several times in New York at Carnegie Recital Hall and Merkin Hall. She has developed two special programs; one involves Impressionism and the music of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, and the other program traces the development of the modern grand piano through its ancestors-the clavichord, harpsichord, and fortepiano, to the modern concert grand piano.
